How it works, in one sentence

You create a screen in the dashboard, the dashboard gives you a pairing code, you enter that code in the Narrow.TV Player on your Android device, and from then on that device plays the content you assign to the screen. Everything after that you manage remotely, from your browser.

Step 1: create an account

  1. Go to dashboard.narrow.tv/register and create an account for your business.
  2. Your free 30-day trial covers one screen: a digital signage screen or a digital menu board.
  3. Log in to the dashboard. The dashboard is available in Dutch, English, German, French, Spanish and Turkish.

The trial covers one screen. You add extra screens once you have paid; see the prices.

Step 2: create and pair a screen

  1. Create a new screen in the dashboard.
  2. Give it a recognisable name and fill in the location, for example "Front desk" or "Canteen". With several screens you will always know which screen hangs where, and screens are searchable.
  3. Choose the resolution: Full HD 1920x1080 (default), 4K, HD, square or a custom size, and landscape or portrait. Choose what matches how the screen actually hangs.
  4. The dashboard now shows a pairing code for this screen.
  5. Install the Narrow.TV Player from Google Play on your Android TV, Android box, stick or tablet. How to do that is explained in installing the player.
  6. Open the player and enter the pairing code.
  7. The screen is paired and starts playing.

Step 3: add your first slides

A paired screen needs content. For a digital signage screen you build a playlist of slides:

  1. In the dashboard, open your screen's slides and create a new slide, or choose a ready-made template. You filter templates by screen type and orientation, with categories such as Hospitality, Retail, Automotive and Estate agents.
  2. Add elements: text, images, video, a YouTube video, shapes, a clock or date, a scrolling ticker or a price table. You upload your own images and videos to the media library (JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, MP4, WebM, MOV, up to 200 MB per file).
  3. Set how long the slide stays on screen: between 5 and 60 seconds.
  4. Repeat this for your next slides and drag them into the order you want. The slides run in a loop.
  5. Choose a transition between the slides for each screen: fade, zoom or slide.
  6. Check the result in the preview in the dashboard.

Do you have a digital menu board? Then you create one menu design per screen with the price table, text, images and video. You then change products and prices yourself in the dashboard. More on this under digital menu boards.

Good to know

  • Your own templates: save a slide you use often as a template. Everyone in your business account can then use it.
  • Weather: there is a ready-made weather template with the city, date, current temperature and a 6-day forecast. You only set the location.
  • Sound: video plays without sound by default. You can optionally turn sound on.
  • No PDF or PowerPoint: these files are not supported. Export a slide or page as an image (PNG or JPEG) and upload that.

More screens and colleagues

After the trial, each screen is its own subscription. You create an extra screen the same way: new screen in the dashboard, pairing code, pair the player. Give each screen a clear location so you keep track as the number grows.

Working on the screens with colleagues? A business account has the roles of owner (subscription and screens) and editor (slides, templates and media). Narrow.TV adds extra users for you on request via the contact page.

Troubleshooting

  • The pairing code does not work: check that you have copied the code exactly as it appears in the dashboard, and that the Android device has internet.
  • The screen stays black or empty: check that you have added slides to the screen and that the device is connected to the internet.
  • A change is not visible: wait about a minute; the player checks for new content every 60 seconds.
  • The content does not fit properly: check that the resolution and orientation in the dashboard match how the screen hangs. The content is scaled, but a landscape design on a portrait screen is still the wrong choice.
  • You want to use a different device: pair the new device with the same screen. The old device is then unpaired.
  • You cannot add a second screen: that is not possible during the trial. After payment it is.
